Napoli Campi Flegrei, also known as the Phlegraean Fields, is a large volcanic area located in the northwest of Naples, Italy. It is composed of around 40 volcanic craters and features thermal springs, fumaroles, and geysers. The area has been inhabited since ancient times and is famous for its archaeological sites, such as the Roman city of Pozzuoli and the Greek settlement of Cumae. Despite its volcanic activity, the area is still inhabited by about 500,000 people, who enjoy the benefits of the geothermal resources for agriculture and spa tourism. However, the volcanic activity in the area poses some risks, as demonstrated by the bradyseism, a process of ground uplift and subsidence caused by the movement of magma beneath the surface. In recent years, there have been concerns about the possible eruption of the Campi Flegrei volcano, which could have a major impact on the surrounding area.
